Umno veteran leader Tan Sri Sanusi Junid says MCA is afraid of Datuk Jamal Md Yunos , the frontman of the red shirt rally, as the latter has become an Umno warrior. He says Jamal became popular not because of his contributionsbut because he organised the red shirt rally and gained popularity when DAP leaders slammed him for it.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3, 2015:

Malaysia is finally a champion at something — corruption — taking over the spot from Indonesia, said Umno veteran leader Tan Sri Sanusi Junid in jest.

“The Indonesians are crying because they have lost to us, but not in badminton.

“It is because we now win in the category of corruption, becoming more corrupt than them as we are among the top 10 most corrupt countries,” said the former minister and Kedah Menteri Besar, who was speaking at a hi-tea organised by Pusat Bandar Taman Cempaka Umno branch today.

The event, which was held in DePalma hotel in Ampang, also saw former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad attending.

Sanusi, known for injecting humour into his speeches, while speaking on the level of corruption in Malaysia, warned the Malays that unless the situation was rectified, the community would become “bangsat” (despicable) and as a result, Umno would lose in the next general election.

He then turned his attention to the Sept 16 red shirt rally, touching on Umno’s Datuk Jamal Md Yunos’ statement on the Chinese having an option to return to China should something happen to them.

Jamal, who is the Sungai Besar division chief, had a few days ago also said the Malays only had Malaysia.

Sanusi then said that MCA leaders were now afraid to reprimand Jamal as he is a “pendekar Umno” (Umno warrior).

“Jamal became popular not because of his contributions, but because he organised the red shirt rally and gained popularity when DAP leaders slammed him for it.

“Jamal’s supporters talked about having a red shirt rally in Kajang, but the Umno secretary-general, who joined Jamal on Sept 16, didn’t support it,” he said alluding to Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

“When Umno doesn’t agree, the red rally did not take place. So when it does, who agreed?” he asked. The crowd replied: “Umno.”

The red shirt rally, which was also known as Himpunan Kebangkitan Rakyat and Himpunan Maruah Melayu, was organised to counter the Aug 29-30 Bersih 4 rally.

Many detractors of the red shirt rally had taken issue with the racial slant the gathering adopted, which saw slurs directed at non-Malays.
