'Money' the reason behind nation’s problems, says former minister
KUALA LUMPUR: “Money” is one of the main reasons for Malaysia’s present problems, said veteran Umno leader Tan Sri Sanusi Junid (pic), making reference to the 1Malaysia Development Berhard (1MDB) issue.
“We need to fight and go against the current. Because until the problems are fixed, we will keep losing as a race and as nation and will do so as a party in the next general election,” he said
“Wherever we go, people ask: ‘What is happening to your country?’. This is because we have superseded even Indonesia in terms of corruption” the former minister said.
“We are in a situation where those who make reports are the ones who face investigations,” he said, referring to former Batu Kawan Umno vice-chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan who is being detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma).
Sanusi was speaking during a high tea event at a hotel in Ampang with former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Earlier, the event’s organiser, Pusat Bandar Taman Cempaka Umno branch chief Syed Saifuddin Syed Harman said that the only way the party could move forward is if it changed from the inside.
“We need to realise that there needs to be a change in the higher management for the betterment of the party itself as well as the country as a whole.
“If we do not acknowledge that we are falling and do not work towards becoming stronger than what we are now, it will not be good for us,” he said.
